Montessori in the Philippines was established in 1993 in Imus Cavite and its branch in Puerto Princesa was launched in 2008. It is located at Groundfloor, PPC Coliseum, Barangay San Pedro. S. V. Montessori is a dynamic institution that is using an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (August 31,1870 – May 6,1952),She is the first female physician in Italy, an Italian educator, scientist, physician, philosopher, devout Catholic, feminist, and humanitarian, and is best known for developing the Montessori method of teaching young children.
Montessori education is practiced in an estimated 20,000 Schools worldwide, serving children from birth to 18 old. And since the branch is a Filipino School, the approach is committed to the task of upholding and preserving the Filipino Heritage; developing values and contributing to the fulfilment of the national development goals within the Christian context. S. V. Montessori also believes that parents and the School are partners, with the same goal of enabling the child to develop fully and positively his/her potential.
There are around five hundred books in the library. Including the books for computer science, information and general works, Philosophy and Psychology, Religion, Social Science, Language, Science, Technology and applied Science ,Arts and recreation, Literature, History, Geography And Biography. This institution also maintains a stable valuesystem of self-discipline and leadership which is conservative yet adaptive to modernization. OBJECTIVES To keep pace with the modernization there should be room for improvement in the field of information technology.
Nowadays, schools and companies shift from manual to computerized primarily because of advantages brought by the use of computers. To monitor the integration of different operation. It would be convenient for S. V. Montessori to store information fast and accurately. Furthermore, there would be consistent operation and procedures. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Library System throughout has relied on pens and papers. Problem such as missing of books arise. Under the old manual library systems, it takes up too much time to trace the missing books.
The proponents would like to develop the library system to address the problem of SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY This study will be a significant endeavor in promoting good educational environment in the school place and motivations of its teachers. This study will also be beneficial to the students and instructors in educational management, teaching strategies when they employ effective learning in their classroom setting particularly in different concepts related to the use of effective library management system.
By understanding the needs of the students and benefits of quality education, these instructors and students be assured of a competitive advantage. Moreover, this research will provide recommendations on how to evaluate the performance of a certain institution in accordance to library system management. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION This study covered the whole innovated library management system of S. V. Montessori system. It’s main purpose is to identify the common problems that they encounter and to propose possible solutions regarding this problems.
This study considers every Students and teachers who wants to borrow books has a right to take a book such as the subjects: Computer science, information & general works, Philosophy and psychology, Social sciences Religion, Social sciences, Language, Science, Technology, Arts, History, geography(&biography), Literature. Each of the respondents are given same chances to borrow. Only the administrators are the authorized person and capable to manipulate the system. CHAPTER II THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
The researchers propose a system that can help library of S. V. Montessori to manage and monitor the books in the easiest way, this program has many data entry features. You will be able to keep all the library members in a database. All book specifications can be recorded as well. When a student borrows a book, a simple sheet must be filled in, including students and book’s IDs, dates of issuance and return and book’s status. When the book is returned, another simple form should be completed, which includes member’s ID, book’s ID and the return date.
Unreturned book report will appear each time you open the program to show you all the books lent and their return time. If the books not returned in the due date time the borrower will pay fines for every book he borrowed in damaged book as well. This program will help you to trace all the books and to have these returned at their specified time. The library system also interfaces with an external relational database which stores information about the library users (students, faculty, and staff) including whether they have any library items checked out. PREVIOUS WORKS (Local Studies)
PALAWAN STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY SYSTEM (PSU – LS) 2005 Authors: Ryan T. Lagan and Paolo L. Virgo The purpose of doing this research to improve the services of the Palawan State University Library as well as provide enhanced solution to its common problem and operations. This system is composed of application capable of handling library operation and transactions. Strength: 1. This system offers effective solutions that would assist the Palawan State University Accomplish its goals. 2.
It’s also helping the librarian to minimize their task for every transaction in the library. Weakness: 1. Improve the User interface of P. S. U. Library System Manager, P. S. U. Library Service 2. And improve P. S. U. Library Online Catalog and try to track and fix as much bugs as possible. PUERTO PRINCESA CITY LIBRARY MANAGEMENT AND RECORD SYSTEM (2008) Authors: Villano, Llegado and Lactaotao This Library System is composed of libraries from different schools and universities and was established to serve not only the schools where these libraries are situated but also the citizens of an entire country.
While the library system in our study covers only Puerto Princesa City. Strength: 1. The system we’re developing is easy to use. 2. Would help the Puerto Princesa City Library minimized their task such as in registration of the new member, adding of new book, borrowing and returning of books, searching for specific library materials and making of reports. Weakness: 1. The only weakness of this system is not online there for we must need to go to the PPC Library to look some books and make some research. 2. Improve the user interface. Foreign Studies) Up Mindanao Library System When UP in Mindanao accepted its first batch of students in 1996, the Main Library collection was integrated with the core collection of the School of Management (SOM) Library at the Stanfilco Bldg. , Ladislawa Avenue, Buhangin, Davao City. The Filipiniana and General References were housed together with the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) collection in Room 2 of the Philippine Coconut Authority. In the Second Semester AY 1996-1997, the CAS Library moved to its main campus in Bago Oshiro.
In July 2002, the library established the Library Educational Media and Information Technology Office (LEMITO). The LEMITO handles the audio-visual services, internet and the connectivity of the library. It currently holds office at the Elias B. Lopez Hall Dormitory. Later, the Main Library collection which grew from 100 titles to 6,191 volumes at the end of May 2004, and was transferred to the Administration Bldg Today, the Main Library occupies the former UP in Mindanao Cultural Center (UPMCC) building Silliman University Main Library System
